Three in a Week

Saturday 2nd May saw my first of three matches at Lindholme lakes, with round 4 of the Maggot drowners spring series, No I had no chance of winning it was all for pride. I arrived at the fishery just after 7 with more than enough time for my breakfast, with the draw not until 9. The next Md’er didn’t arrive until gone 7.30 there was then a steady trickle until the 27 angler due to fish this final round. The match was due to be on Laurel’s lake, which we had to our selves which was great considering the lake has 68 pegs. At the draw I pulled out 50, not bad but not brilliant either, the points normally produce the big weights but you can’t have it all your own way.
I got my scooter Out of the car and loaded ready to go as every body was heading to their pegs, over my should they were queuing to draw for the open, one of their number came across as he saw me struggling to get my holdall to sit right. This bloke was none other than 5-time world champion Alan Scotthorne. He asked where I had drawn and headed off to my peg with my rods and pole. What a nice man.
My pegs was not bad but not the best, I would just have to see what I could do. The plat form wasn’t brilliant being on an angle, it took a good 5 minutes to get my box sorted, and then the rest of my tackle. The match was a none event with just 10 fish for about 10lb, as I had no chance of winning the match or the series I accepted a DNW by my name. My biggest fish was a rainbow of around 3lb on Paste.
I heard talking to Neil the owner after Alan Scotthorne had won the open with 186lb on Bonsai. Oh well back home to prepare for Wednesday and Thursday back at Lindholme.
